new new new
I had been scrolling through the “New Releases” section on Apple Music when I came across the album Belladonna of Sadness by Alexandra Savior. When I saw it I actually geeked out for a bit. I thought it had something to do with the 1973 animated film of the same title directed by Eiichi Yamamoto – which is one of my favorite movies. At first, I thought that there had been some re-release of the movie that I didn’t know about and this was the accompanying soundtrack but this is just as good, or maybe even better.
I gave the album a good search on Google and found that it’s Alexandra Saviors first studio album. After figuring out the album has no direct ties to the original film (at least not in the way I had imagined), I gave it a listen anyway and fell in love with every song. After scrolling a bit through Alexandra’s Instagram, I found a post of her mentioning the “real Belladonna of Sadness” and I think if the movie had re-released, these are the songs that would belong on the soundtrack. Either way, it’s amazing and y’all should all give it a good ‘ole listen.
In terms of sound, it reminds me of a maybe less depressing and less erotic version of Lana del Rey. In reality, though, a comparison won’t really do you any good. You just have to listen for yourselves. So give it a go and tell me what you think of it in the comments! Bisous.
